Built in 1838 as a residence for the first governor of Hawai‘i, John Adams Kuakini, Hulihe‘e Palace is the oldest, and one of the most historically significant sites on the island of Hawai‘i.  In 1925 Hulihe‘e was purchased by the Territory of Hawai‘i and leased to the Daughters of Hawai‘i to be operated and maintained as a museum.  Today the museum houses a collection of artifacts and personal memorabilia of Hawaiian royalty.
